Prince Edward Island is better known for another famous redhead, but Courtney Hogan is working hard to change that. At the age of 5, Hogan started playing piano and then moved to classical violin at the age of 11. After hearing her great-grandfather playing around with some old Don Messer tunes, Hogan quickly fell in love with the fiddle. She started entertaining audiences at Ceilidh's and benefit concerts and came out with her own CD at the age of 15. Her relentless discipline and years of practice earned her enough popularity to start her own shows in her hometown of Cumberland. After two other PEI music award nominated CD's, Hogan started to pursue her other life dreams of becoming a veterinarian. She played her fiddle at every small hall and town she could to help pay her way through school, and recently graduated as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at the Atlantic Veterinary College. As the newest full-time vet at the Summerside Animal Hospital, Hogan can also be found at the farmhouse in Emerald where she provides a place of respite for rescue animals including horses, dogs, cats, goats, sheep and rabbits. But on warm summer Friday nights, she can't resist kicking off her shoes, blowing the dust off her old violin calling up the friends and neighbours and having a true PEI kitchen party down the road at the Emerald Boxcar Pub & Grill. Join us for some musical fun this summer and don't forget to get your pet spayed or neutured.
